ABSTRACT

A large number of industrial facilities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are presently being required to install wastewater treatment or pretreatment systems operated by licensed operators. Typically the municipal operators deal with biological secondary treatment plants while the industrial operators are involved in physical-chemical treatment of wastewaters from metal finishing, electroplating, electronics, and other high-tech industries. The documents were then given to other colleges located strategically throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to which Bay State Skills Corporation awarded development monies to initiate industrial wastewater operations training programs. The pretesting for the introductory course indicated that most students found it extremely difficult to quantitatively set up and solve problems which required the most elementary calculations. Additionally, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a separate examination process for the certification of operators in the areas of industrial and municipal wastewater treatment.
