ABSTRACT

In April, 1976, Amoco received a permit to construct the industrial and sanitary wastewater treatment systems which allowed for separate approval of the dedicated sludge application site. Site inspections by the Groundwater Quality Control Division were conducted July and September, 1978, to collect preliminary data for the proposed sludge application areas at Amoco. In February, 1979, Amoco submitted a Preliminary Engineering Report which outlined the concepts and proposals for site development. The quantity of sludge was estimated based on the analysis of clarifier underflow at a similar plant in Decatur, Alabama. More importantly, the company has a better understanding of and a better working relationship with SCDHEC and has had the opportunity to help formulate the guidelines for future industrial sludge land application projects in South Carolina. Amoco Corporation is proud of its record and reputation as a good steward of the ecology and considers itself a leader in the implementation of sound environmental practices.
