ABSTRACT

The process of aging is an integral component of the ontogeny of organisms. Unlike the earlier maturation phase, it reduces the adaptive ability of the organism to maintain homeostasis, which progressively increases the likelihood of disease and death. 1 It is widely believed that deteriorative changes in the nerve cells play a major role not only in the alteration of the function of the nervous system, but also in the aging of the whole organism. 2 - 6 Metabolic disturbances in the brain during aging have multiple physiological effects involving other organs.
