ABSTRACT

Although toxic marine fishes, paralytic shellfish poisoning, diarrhetic shellfish poisoning, brevitoxic (neurotoxic) shellfish poisoning, and amnesic shellfish poisoning probably account for the bulk of the foodborne intoxications caused by marine organisms, there are a variety of other toxic marine organisms capable of causing severe oral intoxications and even fatalities. This chapter deals with some of these lesser-known marine biotoxications. The topics discussed have been arranged phylogenetically.
