ABSTRACT

Sagittaria graminea Michx. var, chapmanni J. G. Sm. is a monoecious perennial which belongs to the family Alismataceae. It is heterophyllous, and the leaves grow as a rosette from the rhizome. The formed submerged leaves, considered phyllodia, are basal and strap-shaped with no distinction between lamina and petiole. Later-formed leaves have petioles with emerged blades that are elliptic, lancelinear, or linear. Vegetative reproduction occurs by the formation of rhizomes or numerous tubers on the ends of stolons or lateral branches. The inflorescence is erect and its flowering portion is emergent, with flowers in whorls. The flowers in the upper whorls are staminate and those of the lower ones are pistillate.
