ABSTRACT

The genus Sedum L. consists of about 500 species, mostly native to the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. A group is found in Mexico and only a few grow in central Africa, Madagascar, or South America. Most of them possess succulent stems, roots, or leaves, and the genus includes annuals as well as biannuals or perennials, semi-shrubs. Many of them may be used in rock gardens and as small pot plants. Elongation and flowering of LD-grown plants, however, was strongly retarded in 11- and 12-hr photoperiod, as compared with 8- to 10-hr photoperiod. Short day-grown plants did not elongate in a 12 hr photoperiod. In a 13-hr photoperiod, however, all plants elongated and flowered.
