ABSTRACT

Perilepta dyerana Bremek. is also known as Strobilanthes dyeranus Mast, and is a member of the Acanthaceae. t is an erect, branched shrub and, as a young plant, is a beautiful foliage plant. This Burmese shrub shows 15 to 20 cm long elliptic-lanceolate leaves variegated with iridescent tints of blue and lilac, rose purple underneath. Flowers are 3 to 4 cm long, pale blue, and grow in erect axillary spikes. The commercial value is not because of its flowers, but for its leaves, if elongation of internodes is retarded. Additionally, temperature seems to be of importance: under the conditions of growth chambers flowers were formed only at temperatures below 20 to 22°C. Growth retardants, however, promoted flowering and extended the range of temperature for flowering. A highly significant correlation between concentration of CCC spray and flowering was found.
