ABSTRACT

Cyanella (Tecophilaeaceae 5 ) consists of about eight species that occur in Botswana, Lesotho, South West Africa, and South Africa. The genus is centered in the Cape Province, where five species occur. These are: C. alba L.f. (n = 12, Ornduff 10 ), C. hyacinthoides L. (n = 12, 14, 24), C. lutea L.f. (n = 8, 12, 24), C. orchidiformis Jacq. (n = 12), and C. pentheri Zahlbr. The variation in chromosome number and flower color in some of these species 10 suggests that further taxonomic distinctions may be needed in this genus.
