ABSTRACT

Eustoma grandiflorum (Raf.) Shinn. (syn. Lisianthus russellianus) belongs to the Gen-tianaceae and in nature is found in the southern part of the U.S., mainly in the wet prairies of Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas. The genus is composed of three species of herbaceous annuals, biennials, or perennials. 3 Eustoma forms tap roots and a rosette, which grows very slowly during the winter. The shoots elongate in the spring and are some 1 m in height. Leaves are clasping, ovate to oblong. The 5-lobed bell-shaped corolla with colors of purple or dark blue, pink, and white is over 5 cm across and 7 cm deep.
