ABSTRACT

The genus Meconopsis consists of 49 species and belongs to the Papaveraceae. The center of origin is in the Sino-Himalayan region of Asia, although one species (M. cambrica) is native to western Europe. 28 The plants are annual or perennial herbs, 10 some species belonging to either group according to climatic conditions. 22 The genus, named by Viguier in 1814, is characterized by yellow latex, 3 , 26 free petals (usually four), numerous free stamens, 10 and production of numerous seeds in a capsule. 3
