ABSTRACT

Nicotiana is one of the larger genera of the Solanaceae, presently comprising 66 species, some of which are used commercially. The most widely used one is the common tobacco, N. tabacum L. (Fr. tabac; Ge. Tabak; Rus. tabak); for similar purposes but less widely used is N. rustica L. (Ge. Bauerntabak; Rus. makhorka); while some other species are used as ornamentals.
