ABSTRACT

Majoraria syriaca (L.) (Labiatae) Rafin. is a chemaephyte subshrub herb. In the recent revision of the genus Origanum, Ietswaart 4 named this species as one of three varieties of O. syriacum L. (var. syriacum). The plant grows in rocky soils over a large area in the eastern Mediterranean region. The stems are ascending or erect, up to 90 cm tall, and usually brown. Leaves are petiolate to sessile or entire, oval green or whitish. The plant flowers from May to October. Floral leaves are obovate, as long as the calyx. Spikes are oblong, the calyx slit on the outer side, corolla white. 3
