ABSTRACT

The genus Phleum L. of the Poaceae (Gramineae) includes some ten species native to the temperate zones of the northern or both hemispheres. 3 , 10 Both annuals and perennials are represented. The inflorescence is a dense, spike-like, cylindrical or ovoid panicle. Spikelets are strongly compressed laterally, with only 1 floret. Florets have awned glumes which are retained after the spikelets are shed.
