ABSTRACT

This genus, with only two (perhaps three) species, is one of the most advanced ones in the arum lily family (Araceae). The number of female flowers in the inflorescence rarely exceeds six. A. proboscideum, a perfect example of mushroom mimicry, is pollinated by fungus gnats. The pollination strategy of A. vulgare is almost as fascinating. The description of A. proboscideum is based mostly on Vogel’s account, 19 and that of A. vulgare on the studies of Galil 8 and of Koach and Galil. 12
