ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the various aspects of integrated crop management systems, with examples, as they relate to the agroecosystem, including people philosophy and approaches. Efficient management of a crop production system blends an understanding of the effects of management decisions on biological processes with an analysis of their effects on economic returns. The systems approach would help in integrating recent advances in the science and technology of modern agriculture to maintain plant health and control plant pests. Knowledge of an agro ecosystem, its pests, the complex interactions that regulate them and the development of a The Integrated Crop Management System (ICMS) for pest control and plant protection within that system are not enough. ICMS is the art and science of coordinating, controlling crop production. ICMS is a powerful concept and tool. It shows great promise of maintaining plant health, keeping plant pests below an economic threshold, reducing pesticide use, protecting man and the environment, and increasing economic returns to growers.
