ABSTRACT

Glutathione (GSH) is the tripeptide l-γ-glutamyl-l-cysteinylglycine. It is found in many plant, bacterial, and mammalian cells and is usually the most abundant intracellular thiol. 1 , 2 GSH participates in many biological phenomena; 1 - 4 it functions as a co-enzyme for several enzymes and it conjugates with endogenous and foreign compounds. 2 GSH is involved in amino acid transport, in the formation of DNA precursors, and in the protection of cells against oxygen toxicity. 2
