ABSTRACT

This section includes bacteria grouped in the 7th edition of Bergey's Manual in the families Brevibacteriaceae and Corynebacteriaceae. Both families harbor Gram-positive rods, and the distinction between these families is not clear. In general, the Brevibacteriaceae are non-pathogenic, non-pleomorphic coccobacilli to rods found in soil and other natural substrates, whereas the Corynebacteriaceae are often pleomorphic and often associated with diseases.
