ABSTRACT

Viruses that multiply in invertebrate animals are, by definition, viruses of invertebrates. Very little is known about viruses of nematodes, and most of the information available pertains to arthropod-infecting viruses. Since plant-pathogenic viruses that also multiply in arthropod vectors are dealt with under plant viruses, and since certain arthropod-borne (Arbo) viruses that have insect and vertebrate hosts are of primary interest to animal virologists, the discussion of viruses of invertebrates will be limited to viruses that usually cause fatal diseases in insects.
