ABSTRACT
Gallionella and Nevskia are two genera of aquatic bacteria with appendages that can be seen under a light microscope. The appendages of these microorganisms differ from those of the prosthecate bacteria in that they are not bounded by the cell wall. Instead, they are excreted from the cell and are therefore properly termed “acellular” or “extracellular” appendages.
