ABSTRACT
In eucaryotic organisms with a sexual cycle, conjugation between gametes is the usual mode of reproduction. It is a well-ordered series of events, which in its simplest form takes place between identical gametes or isogametes. With increased complexity, the conjugating gametes become different from each other, and the largest one, which is also the least active, is attributed to the female sex.
