ABSTRACT

The same foods enjoyed earlier in life should be offered to the aged. The idea that the elderly should be fed a thin gruel concocted in a blender in order to compensate for impaired dentation and diminished powers of digestion, is as wrong as the idea that vitamin and mineral supplements can replace food. Food supplies more than nutrition. The taste, color, form, and texture of foods contribute to the joy of eating. No food should be provided or denied simply because a person is old. Favorite foods shared with family and friends are among the pleasures of life which should be provided to both old and young.
