ABSTRACT

Capsicum, a genus belonging to the Solanceae family, includes five domesticated species: C. annuum var. annuum, C. baccatum var. pendulum, C. pubescens, C. chinense, and C. frutescens. 1 All of the cultivated peppers are of Central and South American origin. The basic haploid chromosome number in these capsicums is 12. In general, sterility barriers are well developed between all the species. 2
