ABSTRACT

Financial Services has always looked beyond the ordinary toolset in an attempt to develop systems that would not only process data but turn the data into this elusive thing called knowledge. This chapter is a summary of the development of the some of the most highly publicized and eloquent knowledge-based systems. The credit knowledge base contains information about the companies which are to be analyzed. Since an object-oriented design was used, the objects were used to great advantage by defining each company as an instance object. Each company object contains both financial and human judgment about the company. The data knowledge base contains the specifics of the methodology of financial analysis. Upon completion of financial analysis the results need to be analyzed to determine a company’s financial performance over time and projection of financial performance into the future.
