ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to give a general description of the overall workings of the federal hazardous waste management (HWM) system. Such an understanding will provide the reader with a framework to better grasp the specifics of the system, as found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). New regulations, as well as modifications to existing regulations, are printed in the Federal Register (FR). The Code of Federal Regulations is modified annually to take into account changes promulgated in the Federal Register. The chapter begins with a description of the HWM system and concludes with an explanation of the FR/CFR system and other information sources on the regulations.
