On the Atmospherically Induced Variability of the Circulation of the Northwest European Shelf Sea and Related Phenomena — A Model Experiment

An important component for the understanding of the shelf sea system as a whole is its circulation since it is the transport medium for a major portion of the biomass, for pollutants entering the sea by different routes, and for heat and salt. The latter interact with the circulation. The decisive role of the circulation in regard to oceanographic and to related environmental phenomena explains its importance within resource management.
