      ABSTRACT

      One of the latest developments in the morphological analysis of particulate materials has been the formulation of the set of invariant descriptors for the size and shape of particles. This chapter aims to extend morphological analysis to include the color of the object. It discusses an experiment to reproduce a colored image from a colored object by using Particle Image Analyzing System (PIAS), which analyzes an object in a black and white mode. Using PIAS, the chapter also discusses a series of experiments which have been conducted to investigate the possibility of separating and identifying sets of particles on the basis of color. It describes some techniques such as look up table, effects of illumination, methods of combining gray levels, and image normalizing techniques. The chapter explains the steps to produce color descriptors that can be used to identify, differentiate, and classify sets of particles.
