ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a research findings regarding use of growth regulators on all facets of citrus production and marketing. Citrus tree growth and fruit quality are sharply conditioned by climate in the growing areas. Climatic conditions affect the citrus leaf and fruit wax deposition and composition. Development of a plant growth regulator to improve internal color, or any of these other qualities, would be beneficial. Commercial use of plant growth regulators is infancy and this type of information is not readily available from most research reports. The citrus disease anthracnose is a major source of postharvest decay for Robinson tangerines in Florida. There are many factors to consider regarding postharvest treatments and fresh fruit storage. The citrus fruit is fully ripe at harvest, it contains practically no starch reserves, and it is not a good candidate for controlled atmospheric storage.
