ABSTRACT

Thermally Enhanced Dewatering (TED) is a process developed at the Georgia Tech Research Institute which uses low temperature heat (less than 200°F) to remove water from the skimmings derived as a byproduct of dissolved air flotation treatment of poultry processing wastewater. The basic principle on which the process is based is that heating the skimmings greatly increased the rate of solid/liquid separation. Based on the successful results of the laboratory tests, a program was initiated to develop a full-scale thermally enhanced skimmings dewatering system. The program involved laboratory-scale beaker tests, bench-scale tank tests, pilot-scale batch tests, and pilot-scale continuous tests.
