ABSTRACT
Pacific Nuclear Transport Ltd a subsidiary of British Nuclear Fuels Ltd owns and operates five purpose built ships for the carriage of irradiated fuel from Japan to France and the UK. The installed systems on board these vessels have been assessed for reliability and where appropriate recommendations made for modifications to the ship systems or for institution of appropriate maintenance or testing. No significant deficiencies existed in the design of the vessels but minor modification to engine control systems resulted in substantial improvements in reliability.
