ABSTRACT

Integrated pest management is a strategy blending various control techniques with the characteristics of the crop, its management and pest organisms, environmental factors, and in some cases the scope and means of those applying the measures. Regular migrational patterns and microclimatic conditions are to some extent predictable and can therefore be incorporated into rodent control operations. technical and extension staff were trained on rodents, their biology and control, and with the help of these services as well as national information and motivation campaigns, farmers were made aware of the appropriate techniques of control and facilities available. The traditional draw-back of acute rodenticides, i.e., bait shyness, was not critical in Bangladesh. Trapping results revealed that two species, Rattus rattus and Bandicota bengalensis, were responsible for this damage. Rattus rattus probably moved between nearby huts and gardens, and immigration into gardens had to be expected from all sides.
