ABSTRACT
This part conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters. The part shows that much is presently known with regard to production of sweet potatoes and suggests that there are several serious gaps or deficiencies. Much of the research reported has been conducted in temperate areas. The control of the sweet potato weevil is perhaps the single most important problem to be resolved. Much of the potential importance of sweet potato production in development strategy will depend on controlling the depredation of the weevil. The use of chemical insecticides in order to control the sweet potato weevil would seem to carry the potential of long term damage to various ecosystems. The exchange of vegetative germplasm has posed problems on many occasions. In order to prevent the entry of potentially destructive viruses, many countries have imposed strict quarantine procedures.
