ABSTRACT

A total of 52 Internal Two Flange (ITF) and Internal One Flange (IOF) web crippling tests were carried out on cold-formed thin-walled steel cassettes both on cut out single web sections and built-up structures. Both flat and longitudinally stiffened web sections were tested. The longitudinally stiffened web sections represent a structure type that is not considered in the present Eurocodes or the AISI design code, as the stiffener part is situated only on one side of the mid-line of the web. This is, however, a common stiffener type for cassettes. The web crippling capacity is relevant when designing cassettes as continuous beams over two or more spans. The article shows the differences in the web crippling performance of flat and longitudinally stiffened cassette webs. The research will be continued computationally using FEA.
