ABSTRACT

Sterile Bottle Technique system using empty sterile evacuated bottles consists of a commercially available sterile evacuated container of the desired volume, solutions of concentrates such as dextrose 50% or amino acids, and transfer sets and protective caps. Plastic Bag Technique is similar to the vacuum bottle technique except that either empty sterile plastic bags of polyvinyl chloride or partially filled bags are used. The technique of admixing in both of the systems is similar. Usually the two basic components, amino acids and dextrose, are first admixed in the laminar air-flow hood. The admixing process is accomplished using a transfer set. Both the vacuum bottle and plastic bag techniques have certain things in common. They both utilize partially filled containers or complete empty sterile containers. Both can utilize gravity or vacuum to effect solution transfer and both are available in commercial kit form which can simplify matters.
