Organic farming has developed rapidly on a global scale, with both markets and areas of production continuously growing (Willer and Lernoud, 2017). One of the cornerstones of this development is the fact that, unlike many other initiatives aiming to improve farming towards greater sustainability, organic farming is governed by clear standards and inspection/ certification procedures, which in many parts of the world are protected by legislation.
