ABSTRACT
Soil is a fundamental resource in agriculture. The contribution of soil to crop yield is summarized as soil fertility or soil productivity (White, 2006). The impact of soil fertility on crop production can be specified by the physiological, phytosanitary and technological functions of soil (Kundler, 1989):
• The physiological function comprises the supply of nutrients, water, air and heat to the crop roots.
