ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Daylighting is one of the measures adopted to take advantage of the climate and environment in designing buildings. Here emphasis is given to the strategies that can be adopted to bring daylight effectively to the tropical high rises thereby reducing the energy consumption due to artificial lighting. The tropical climate differs substantially from conditions of other climates. These differences should be taken into account while designing the facades of high rises in this region. This paper mentions some of the terms regarding the daylighting components, daylighting systems, principles and their analysis in the context of tropical high rise. It also analyses some of the case studies and derives design strategies that can be adopted for daylighting in tropical high rises.
