ABSTRACT

How to live well and within the means of one planet is the question of the 21st century. Awareness of the ecological limits, use of human ingenuity to design ways to live within the bounds, adoption of practices that reduce human imprint and keeping “going green” central to decision making holds the key to a sustainable future. Unless we shift from “business as usual” to a “transition to a sustainable society,” sustainability will remain elusive and would render humanity as well as the economies at stake. In this backdrop, the paper reflects the stark reality of ecological scarcity and discusses strategies and ways of reducing individual and business footprints as well as of improving one’s quality of life, leading to a rewarding and sustainable future.
