ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the graphical technique known as the Energy Planning Pinch Diagram (EPPD), which was the first approach used to implement CEPA. A step-by-step description of the EPPD procedure is given. An illustrative case study is then solved to illustrate the use of the methodology for carbon-constrained energy planning. The significance of the Pinch Point as determined in CEPA implementation is discussed in detail. Two additional examples are then solved to show how the basic methodology can be extended to other footprint metrics relevant to energy planning. Water and land footprints are considered in these examples.
