ABSTRACT

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a technology which is likely to be needed to achieve global decarbonization goals. This chapter discusses applications of graphical, algebraic, and ATM extensions of CEPA to problems in CCS planning. In particular, two sub-problems are considered. First, the problem deals with planning CCS retrofits in a fleet of existing power plants while maintaining grid balance vis-à-vis electricity demand. This problem requires accounting for energy losses that result from implementing CCS. Second, the problem of matching CO2 sources (power plants) and sinks (storage sites) in a carbon management network is considered. Illustrative case studies are solved to illustrate the different approaches developed.
