ABSTRACT

The arterial switch has become the procedure of choice for d-transposition of the great arteries (TGA) with intact ventricular septum (IVS) or with ventricular septal defect (VSD). It was initially successfully performed by Jatene in 1975 and applied to the treatment of early repair in neonates by Castaneda. The atrial switch (Mustard or Senning operations) is rarely performed nowadays for d-transposition and has become an historical procedure with very limited indications.
