460The intention of Chapter Sixteen is to illustrate the range of environmental and social concerns that are commonly associated with mining. This listing of potential impacts is not complete; it does not need to be. Environmental and social concerns are many and varied, since mine-induced changes may occur in almost any environmental component (Figure 16.1). It is this recognition that is important, rather than any attempt to present a complete picture of all potential environmental and social concerns.
