ABSTRACT

Pakistan is an agricultural country mostly located in arid to semiarid regions, where the natural resources of water and soil have been adversely affected by unchecked and uncontrolled anthropogenic activities. The shrinkage of resources for agriculture demands the exploration of new horizons along with the rehabilitation of some ignored resources. The share of freshwater for agriculture has been reduced and replaced with low quality groundwater and untreated city effluents. Proper treatment and management of this low quality water can bring a significant addition in water resource for agriculture. This chapter covers the treatment and management options for low quality waters. Emphasis is also put on bringing changes in policies for significant improvement and sustainability of crop husbandry.
