ABSTRACT

This need analysis aims to investigate 2016 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students’ academic reading (AR) skills need. Benesch (1997) stated that needs assessment plays an essential role in all aspects of language education planning Individuals use different strategies while being engaged in reading tasks. AR strategies are deliberate, cognitive steps that learners can take to assist in acquiring, storing, and retrieving new information and thus can be assessed. These strategies will eventually become part of academic literacy (AL) skills.
