ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: A number of English teaching practitioners have affirmed that English learning activities should embed to the learners’ cultural background. This assumption raises based on the consideration that localized teaching materials can be used as a means to strengthen local genius, in order to address the diversity and richness of the English used today. This study investigated the implementation of Sundanese local content integration in English for Young Learners (EYL) Classroom, which was conducted in one of the classes in English for Young Learner course in Bandung. A case-study design was employed and the data were collected from classroom observation, teacher and students interview, and document analysis. The results show that this technique can be utilized as a proposed strategy to promote cultural literacy skills. Correspondingly, in classroom context, it can address the difficulties in providing culturally appropriate English materials for students in West Java.
