ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This study aimed at providing the sophomores of the English Language Education Department, at Yogyakarta State University, with ample materials to enhance their listening skills that in the end will contribute to the improvement of their speaking skills. The study gathered information on the students’ needs via online questionnaires. The results suggested that the students agreed on the integration of the learning materials between listening and speaking. They affirmed that the materials obtained in Listening class will contribute to their speaking skill improvement. Furthermore, students were more interested in learning through audio visual materials than audio materials alone. The students were likely to prefer entertaining materials such as film clips, songs, or talk shows as the input texts. An interesting fact was revealed that printouts from which students can get some information and references about useful expressions or conversation gambits was needed. In other words, students need a course book that meets their needs and maintains their interest as well.
