Compaction parameters are very important in the case of earth work constructions. Therefore any attempt to develop empirical equations for the same should have great acceptance. It has been reported in the literature that both liquid limit and plastic limit are essential for the determination of compaction characteristics. In the present study it is tried to develop an equation for toughness limit, water content at zero toughness, in terms of conventional liquid limit and plastic limit. Further an attempt has been made to correlate compaction parameters of standard proctor test with toughness limit. It has been shown that optimum moisture content bears a good correlation with toughness limit and maximum dry unit weight bears a good correlation with dry unit weight at toughness limit water content.
