ABSTRACT

To improve the performance of concrete, polymers are mixed with concrete. It has been observed that polymer modified concrete is more durable than conventional concrete due to superior strength and high durability. In this work, effect of natural rubber latex on compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of concrete with metakaolin has been studied and also the optimum latex content for concrete is calculated. The mixes were prepared with natural rubber latex ratio of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2%. Metakaolin percentage was 5% by weight of cement. Slump test was conducted on fresh concrete while compressive strength were determined at 7 day and 28 days. From the study it was concluded that the optimum percentage addition of latex was 1.5% with respect to water. Beyond this point further addition results in decreased strength.
