ABSTRACT

This paper reports the results of numerical investigation of turbulent aiding natural convection heat transfer from horizontal heated cylinders aligned vertically. The top cylinder is rotating while the bottom cylinder is stationary. The simulations have been performed using commercial computational fluid dynamics package FLUENT available in ANSYS Workbench-14. The flow is assumed to be steady, incompressible, turbulent. The numerical investigations have been conducted for wide range of Rotational Reynolds number (10,360 ≤ Rer ≤ 51,800) and normalized gap spacing (0.5 ≤ g* ≤ 10). This investigation focusses on the influence of the presence of heated stationary lower cylinder on the flow and thermal characteristics of heated rotating upper cylinder.
