ABSTRACT

With rising population and urbanisation the sphere of consumers has increased drastically and so is the production of materials. Generation of waste is directly proportional to production and consumption factors. Generated waste if not disposed properly has the capability to eat up our beautiful planet. With latest technology discovered by man to reach the moon, this is no big deal to find an appropriate waste management method specific to our locality if needed and thus succumb to such practices for the better being of our predecessors. It is high time that the solid waste generated should be processed at the source itself like the soil waste with the generator taking the sole responsibility. Thus the study focuses on different perspectives of solid waste management techniques adopted in India and Kerala. After keen detailing and analysis of methods, an adaptable solid waste management plan is proposed for Thrissur Municipal Corporation with under laid strategies and accompanied with regulatory measures.
