ABSTRACT

Coir geotextile is a natural geotextile manufactured from coir fibers which are abundantly available in south India. Construction of pavements strengthened with coir geotextiles makes the construction cost-effective and eco-friendly. In this paper, a study was conducted on four stretches of flexible pavements constructed on soft soil. Four roads were reinforced with coir geotextiles and opened to traffic in 2011. Geotextile had been placed as a reinforcement layer at the interface of the sub-grade and granular base. Dynamic cone penetrometer test and Visual evaluation were done in the year 2017 on coir geotextile reinforced and unreinforced section. A comparison of the results has been reported in this paper.
